Thankfully I have been admitted into both Ross and M&TSI. I'm wondering which one is more worthwhile, particularly in regard to College Admission. Any idea? Thank you very much.

The PROMYS thread! I've seen a bit of chatter on the camp, but there's no thread up for this year (that I'm aware of). We have some discussion, talk cool math problems, I... don't really know, even. I'm a class of 2019, and heard about PROMYS just under a month ago, and have been slaving intermittently at the admissions quiz for the last two weeks or so. This is awful exciting. ^^

Hello Everyone, So I noticed there wasn't a thread for Governor's School this year which kind of disappointed me since it has been helpful for me in other things. So I decided to make! If there is any alum out there I would really like to know how the program is and I would like see who else got accepted into the program thanks!

Just realized that there hasn't been in a discussion thread for Gov School made yet, so I thought I'd make one. I kinda half-assed my essays the night before they were due, so I'm not expecting much.

I haven't found any official threads for SSP 2016 yet, just a bunch of scattered threads about specific parts, so I thought it'd be nice to start one. I'm applying this year, so I personally don't have much advice to give, but I have a lot of questions about the application, so hopefully we can start talking about it all in one place! So first of all, with my questions: How should the essays be structured (as in, how formal should they be)? Also, do we need to reach the word limit on each one? Lastly, does SSP superscore the SAT? Link for those unfamiliar with the program: http://www.summerscience.org/home/index.php The deadline is Feb. 5 for international apps and Mar. 4 for domestic apps.

NIH or Garcia

I am trying to decide between 2 opportunities for this summer : NIH SIP (unpaid) or Garcia. Ignoring the cost consideration (both will end up costing the same) which one is more prestigious ? I have seen previous discussions where some rank NIH SIP as more prestigious while the others rank Garcia as higher. My own feelings are mixed about this. For NIH, I think luck plays a huge part since getting in depends on contacting the right PI at the right time. Garcia, on the other hand, has a more orderly process with essays, transcripts, scores, etc.

Hello guys, I just recently made a College Confidential Account after reading some cool threads. I am interested, specifically, in starting a thread about the MIT's Minority Introduction To Engineering and Science Program that will take place this coming summer, 2015. Please join so we can talk about the application process and I would love it if people who attended last year( or any year before that) could provide some advice for this year's applicants. Here goes nothing... :D

Summer language program/camp in Spain

Our daughter is a 12-year old 8th-grader who doesn't want to live with a hosting family or on her own yet. Husband and I can telecommute this year, and we are considering just taking two kids - 12 and 4 y.o., going to Spain, and have our kids attend English-speaking Spanish-learning (for the older) school or camp. Does anyone have any experience with any such programs? Somebody here mentioned Caxton college: https://www.caxtoncollege.com/en/home.html It looks great, but I can't find any feedback/reviews. E-mailed them and haven't heard back :( Any suggestions for other programs? Thanks in advance!

Michigan Math and Science Scholars

I just got accepted into this program at university of Michigan for the summer and I was just wondering if there is anyone who has been there before and could answer some of my questions. Do a lot of people go on the cedar point and baseball trips? And are they worth it? Is there any items I should bring that aren't necessarily on the packing list or are there any things I should be sure to bring? We're the classes hard? I'm in one about statistics and how they are used in stuff. Sounds interesting, but I'm concerned that it won't be very interactive. Are the classes, even the math classes, engaging? Are the counseled lenient and chill or super uptight? Lastly, was it fun? If anyone could answer these I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey guys! I know this is a bit last minute (the application is due 3/1), but I was wondering if someone could tell me the acceptance rate of the LEAD business program?? I just heard about this program, and it seems perfect for me. I would like to know my chances though before I try to crank out an application in one week. Thanks!

Hello! Now that the MIT Launch application has officially opened for next year, I'd like to get the ball rolling and start this thread for people to discuss the application, ask questions of clarification, and to just meet other potential Launchies! LINK TO APPLICATION: launch.fluidreview.com To introduce myself, I'm Annie and I am an alumna of MIT Launch and am still very involved with the program. I'm more than happy to help answer questions you may have, but I will not be able to "chance" you or give personal feedback. Good luck everyone!

Hey guys! I applied for one of the Arizona Delegates of the 2016 National Youth Science Camp. I will have to respectfully decline because I will be in PR with family during that time, however, this camp seems amazing! I haven't heard back, do they let applicants know by phone/email? I was just curious. And congrats to anyone who has been accepted as a delegate! That's awesome! :D

LBW vs M&TSI vs Launch

Hi guys! I've been accepted to LBW (uPenn), M&TSI (uPenn), and Launch (MIT). MIT Launch's summer program is for the month of June while LBW and M&TSI overlap during the month of July. I could potentially do two programs. Launch in June, one of the other in July. I am for sure going to do either LBW or M&TSI. The question is- which one?? Ah!! Also, should I do Launch as well? By entering Launch, I sacrifice a possibility of an internship & tennis (I am ranked high in my state so tennis is very important!!). I may be able to contact the MIT Tennis dep. (Division 3) and possibly play tennis on the campus while I'm there. I know Launch is an amazing opportunity for any entrepreneur. A once-in-a-lifetime thing. On one hand, I could potentially learn an immense about business. This experience could really shape my life. But on the other, it might repeat information from the other camps and/or not be very beneficial, as I have already created 3 startups that were moderately successful. I would also arrive 1-2 days late (ACT & school) and leave 1-2 days early for Launch (not good!!). LBW (Leadership in the Business World) is a non-credit program and accepts 160 people internationally (80 people at each location). I chose Philly over San Fran when I first applied. I think LBW is more relaxed compared to M&TSI - LBW has more field trips, group projects, and lectures form what I've heard. Yes, I really want to tone my leadership skills, but I don't know if M&TSI is a better experience for me. M&TSI (Management & Technology Summer Institute) is for-credit program and accepts 50 people internationally. I heard there is a huge gender disparity here (like 6 girls, 54 guys - I'm a girl). Since it is for credit, we'll have a lot more work with assignments, labs, quizzes and all. They also host lectures/seminars daily and a couple field trips. I think this would mostly feel like taking an actual college class, which would be very helpful. We also work closely with uPenn staff! This program has a lot to do with engineering as with computer science and business. My interests and hobbies all revolve around computer science & also business, but I am a total noob when it comes to engineering. I just don't want to be overly stressed out if I decide to go there :O Let me know your thoughts!! Also, if you're an alumni, I'd love to hear your experience at any of these summer programs. Aha I shouldn't be stressing out - this is a good problem to have - but I really need some input on this. Thanks!

Harvard Secondary School Program: Is it too late?

I am a junior considering applying to the Harvard Secondary School Program, but I am not sure I still have a chance as applications opened up a while ago? Also, if I were accepted I would need housing because I live far away from Cambridge, and I know that housing space is pretty d. Considering that the application opened in January and I would need housing, do you think applying is still worth a try and a $50 application fee?
