Greetings: I am Aracely Aguilera, and I am a junior student at Lorenzo Walker Technical High School. Recently, I have applied to the Boston Leadership Institute's Biomedical and Surgical Research program. This is a three-week residentials program offered to high school students who are interested in medicine, particularly in surgery. In addition, the Biomedical and Surgical program are filled with all sorts of activities: going on tours to see prestigious hospitals, museums, and working in a simulation lab, where we will learn how to perform a surgery. I am happy to say that I was accepted into this program! Currently, I am dual enrolled at FSW, which means I'm taking high school classes while taking college courses. Throughout high school, I've taken all honor classes and kept up with exceptional grades. I am a treasure of K is for Kids, a club run by students dedicated to supporting to giving books to children. Furthermore, I have participated in Key Club and Green Club. For the last three years of high school, I participated in the female football team, better known as Powder Puff. On top of this, I am enrolled in a nursing program and after having some experience in this class, I see myself going into either Pre-Med and into Med school to further my education and ultimately becoming a nurse anesthetist. This summer, I will be going to clinical to apply my nursing skills in assisting living facility and working along side with other nurses and patients. I plan to go to the Boston Leader Institute because it will be an enjoyable learning experience and I'd like to go to school there. As a bonus, getting into this program will mean colleges will see my involvement and passion for medicine. When I heard of BLI's Biomedical and Surgical Research, I knew I had to get into it. Two things that make BLI special to me: I want to go to school in Boston and I want to get into pre-med. Nursing has taught me a lot and I'm extremely proud that I am a nursing student, but this program will provide the experience I couldn't have had if I stayed here. I talked to my nursing instructor and the coordinator about my acceptance to BLI and approved the 3-week leave. This summer, I have clinical with my nursing class, but I promised that I would make up those hours later this year. In order to make this possible, I need financial support to be able to go on to the program. I thought by reaching out to others, I might have a chance to spread the word of my accomplishments. I have created a link, in hopes to spread the word of my accomplishments and find people who are interested in helping students like me. You can find the link here: ****/bostonleadership Thank you so much for looking into this message! Feel free to discuss BLI! I would love to hear your experiences or plans to go this summer!
